Tamiflu – An effective treatment for swine flu

Tamiflu is an oral antiviral drug that has been approved by the US FDA for the treatment and prevention of the swine flu virus. The new strain of the virus is resistant to most medicines and a probable cure in the form of a vaccine is yet to be developed. People who are hit by the swine flu virus must start taking Tamiflu after consulting with their doctor. Tamiflu is most effective if the treatment begins within 48 hours of developing the symptoms. People who are exposed to the swine flu virus may also take Tamiflu to prevent being affected. What is swine flu? Swine flu or swine influenza is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the influenza A virus. Though swine flu normally only infects pigs but the 2009 outbreak involves a new H1N1 type A influenza strain. It contains genes from pig, bird and human flu viruses. The swine flu virus originated in Mexico in March 2009 and within a few months it has affected thousands of people in several countries across the world. Because of it being spread worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the 2009 outbreak of the new H1N1 flu to be [...]

Scientists Finally Create an Effective Vaccine Against Bird Flu Virus

So far, the public health authorities have been in a continuous alert due to the presence of H5N1, the bird flu virus which affected Asia and infected about 100 humans in the past 18 months, half of the victims not surviving the virus attack. Scientists worry about a possible global pandemic, and so they have been trying to develop an effective vaccine against H5N1. Until now millions of birds were slaughtered in Asia in the attempt of stopping the virus from transmitting itself to animals and humans. After a long wait, yesterday, a federal health spokesman said that the scientists have finally created an effective vaccine against a strain of the flu virus that is considered to be a possible spark for the beginning of a global pandemic. The vaccine has been tested on 133 volunteers within a study conducted by US universities, and has proved to be efficient, providing a powerful weapon against the flu virus. The study has been conducted at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, the University of Rochester in New York and the University of California at Los Angeles. The conclusions of the study were that two doses of the vaccine [...]

Medically, flu is also considered to be caused by a virus, hence the name of stomach flu. Symptoms are typically nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, but really any digestive symptoms can be present. If you are prone to stomach flu, it shows two things. One is that your immune system is not strong enough to prevent a virus taking hold. The second is that your weakness is your stomach. Everyone has a weakness. For some it’s their lungs. For others, it’s their joints. Maybe yours is your digestive system. So to avoid further bouts of stomach flu, you need to address these two aspects. The following lists effective ways to improve these areas: Raw food. This is all important. Make sure at least 50% (preferably more) is raw fruit and vegetables. Enzymes are destroyed by cooking, but are essential to a healthy gastrointestinal system. Cut back on the acid making foods.
